I feel happy when I’m around my family
even though we are different from other families.
Is your family different from other families?
~Excerpt from Book Three of the I Feel Happy picture book series
My family is from Italy. I grew up hearing Italian, eating Italian food, and learning the Catholic religion.
I didn’t know there were other nationalities in the United States until I started Kindergarten. That’s when I met kids with different colored skin. They spoke a language I didn’t understand. They brought things for lunch I had never seen before. It was thrilling.
What fun it was to learn new things about other people. What fun it was to teach them about me and my family.
How lucky are we that we don’t even have to travel to other countries to see how other cultures live?
