I feel happy when I meet someone new.
When I look them straight in the eyes to say hello they feel happy, too.
Do you look people in the eyes when you meet them?
~Excerpt from the I Feel Happy series of children’s picture books
I was doing an author visit at an elementary school in my hometown of Hamburg, NY one year. I walked into the Kindergarten class, expecting to be met by the teacher. But I wasn’t. Instead, one of her students walked up to me, held out his hand, and said, “Hi, I’m Brendon. Welcome to our class, Mrs. Barry. It’s nice to meet you.” He looked directly into my eyes as he said it.
What a great welcome! I was very impressed.
I was impressed with this young man because it took courage for him to introduce himself to me like that. He must know he matters.
