Before I was A Mom

Before I was A Mom

Being a Mom is hardBefore I was a Mom – I went to bed when I was tired and slept as late as I wanted to on the weekends.

Before I was a Mom – I never left the house with messy hair or stains on my clothes.  I’d never been puked on, peed on or spit on. I’d never been bitten.

Before I was a Mom – I never tripped over toys or picked up someone’s snotty tissues.  I didn’t worry whether or not the cleaning supplies were poisonous or if a table had sharp edges. I never worried about scratches getting infected or that a headache could be more than a headache.

Before I was a Mom – I never had to step back and watch as someone I loved made mistakes.  I never had to bite my tongue so as not to give all the answers.  I never had to be so strong.

Before I was a Mom – The words “be careful” never felt so inadequate, especially when said while handing over the car keys for the first time.

Before I was a Mom – I didn’t know that I’d have to sacrifice so much, or that I’d want to.

Before I was a Mom – I didn’t quite appreciate my own Mom.  I didn’t know that every second of every day a Mother’s thoughts are on her children.

Before I was a Mom – I didn’t know I wouldn’t want to go back to before I was a Mom.
